TAPS FISH HOUSE & BREWERY CELEBRATES 20th ANNIVERSARY
09.23.19
TAPS Fish House & Brewery will celebrate the opening of its landmark restaurant in Brea 20 years ago with a three-course menu of original dishes from 1999 on Monday, September 23, starting at 4 p.m. As a tribute to the 20th anniversary TAPS brewers are bringing back the cult classic and award-winning beer Trace of Remy.
“A little taste of nostalgia is in order to thank our guests for their amazing loyalty over the last two decades,” said TAPS founder and proprietor Joe Manzella, who opened the original TAPS in Brea with his father and sister on September 20, 1999. TAPS quickly became a popular destination for guests seeking high-quality seafood, selections from the county’s largest oyster bar, as well as craft beers and fine wines, cordially served in a setting of upscale comfort. TAPS Fish House & Brewery since has expanded to Corona and Irvine, as well as TAPS Brewery & Barrel Room, a full-scale production brewery with a tasting room and food truck in Tustin.
On Monday, September 23, for dinner only at the Brea location, TAPS guests will be able to order from a vintage 1999 menu an appetizer, entrée and dessert, with choices in each category, for $19.99. Starters are French Quarter Egg Roll, Seafood Gumbo or Spinach Salad. Entrée selections are Black Magic Fettuccine, Chesapeake Bay Broiled Shrimp and Jerome and Jose's Jambalaya. Guests will choose from two original desserts: TAPS Indulgence or Bananas Foster. The 20th-anniversary menu will be served from 4-10 p.m.; TAPS à la carte menu will also be available.
There’s also a limited return of the cult classic Trace of Remy Beer served on draft the anniversary weekend of Sept. 20-22 at all three TAPS and TAPS Brewery& Barrel Room. Pricing will be $8 per glass. The preview tasting will be followed by a small-scale bottling of Trace of Remy with a specially designed 20th-anniversary label that will roll out in November.
Trace of Remy is an award-winning Imperial Russia Stout that is rich and roasty, with flavors of marshmallow, coconut, and chocolate ganache and aged in fine bourbon barrels. A small production of Trace of Remy first debuted in 2011 and was last released in 2015.
Approximately 2,200 bottles of this classic beer will be produced and be available at all four TAPS locations to mark the 20th anniversary. It also will be available for purchase at El Cerrito Liquor, the Corona retailer that specializes in rare beers. The 16.5 oz. bottle will sell for $20.
The original and flagship is located at 101 East Imperial Highway in Brea Downtown.

Prego’s Seafood Season
09.23.19
If you love Italian food and seafood you can experience something special at Prego Mediterranean at The District at Tustin Legacy for a limited time only. Prego Mediterranean celebrates the best in Seafood Season, Italian style, with a special menu available through October 6.
Inspired by Chef Ugo Allesina’s Italian roots and his love for its coastal cuisine, Prego created a an Italian seafood-centric menu with favorites such as the Zuppa di Pesce with Manila clams, mussels, scallops; and Cozze Del Marinaio, Black Santa Barbara Mussels with white wine, garlic, clam juice, dash of chili flakes, served with crisp Tuscan bread. Paired with white Sangra.
Chef Ugo’s gnocchi is the best I’ve ever had: Gnocchi Portofino, a potato dumpling, mixed with shrimp sautéed in white wine, tossed with sun-dried tomatoes and creamy pesto. Paired with Pinot Grigio, Abbazi. And the Misto Griglia with mixed grilled assortment of tuna, salmon, jumbo fresh water prawns, fillet of white pacific fish, topped with lemon, garlic, and herbs, served with roasted potatoes and vegetables. Paired with Chardonnay, Chateau St. Jean.
Another must is the Lasagna di Pesce, with layers of spinach pasta, béchamel, ragout of crustaceans and fresh seafood, baked and finished with fresh mozzarella. Paired with Greco di Tufo, Terre d’Aione.
The wine pairings and special flights are available only during the Seafood Season at Prego.
Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
2409 Park Ave, Tustin. 949.553.1333.
