Savoy for Small Plates!

07.03.10

Looking for a new place to dine? The Savoy Restaurant and Lounge just opened at The Hotel Hanford, a new boutique-style hotel near South Coast Plaza. The Savoy specializes in a small plates tour of Europe created by Executive Chef Michael Carpenter, and to compliment the cuisine a private wine salon and tasting room is due to open late summer with an award-winning selection from Sodaro Estate Winery, as well as select wines from Napa Valley’s Coombsville region.

A sample of the Savoy Restaurant menu includes a trio of tempura shrimp, seared ahi tuna and baked sea scallop; spicy tuna, salmon tartar and spicy scallops served in cones; grilled baby lamb chops served with baked polenta, vegetables and mint chimichuri; a selection of four farmhouse cheeses and tasty treats; and Italian telaggio cheese and forest mushrooms pizza with truffle oil. Prices range from $4.95 to $17.95 per plate.

The Savoy Restaurant and Lounge also offers a selection of classic and contemporary cocktails including several signature cocktails such as The Costa Mojito and OC-Sunset, a citrus, ginger and champagne cocktail, as well as a selection of award-winning international wines.

It’s also a perfect pre-theater destination with complimentary parking and shuttle service to and from the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

Open daily for breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. and dinner from 4:30 to 10 p.m. The lounge is open until 11 p.m.

Savoy Restaurant and Lounge is at 3131 Bristol Street in Costa Mesa, inside The Hotel Hanford. 714.557.3000.

Taste Test

05.24.10

OK, so it didn’t happen overnight, but good things are worth waiting for. It took Fleming’s one-year of tasting, testing and perfecting more than 50 additions (where can we get a job like that?) before narrowing it down to eight new menu offerings. And now, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse has added smaller portion sizes, healthier options, at accessible prices. Fleming’s enlisted two culinary experts, LA-based Chef Jamie Gwen and Tampa-based Chef Jeannie Pierola to create two new innovative steak dishes, deemed New Classics.

Chef Jamie Gwen created a porcini-rubbed filet mignon, reinventing the classic pairing of blue cheese and filet mignon. It’s a perfectly broiled filet dusted with finely ground porcini mushrooms, finished with rich and silky Italian Gorgonzola cream sauce and served with high country asparagus spears. Chef Pierola’s peppercorn steak is a classic prime New York steak au poivre, but instead of traditional rich cognac or sherry cream sauce, it’s served with “F17” steak sauce, a proprietary blend of 17 ingredients, including molasses, honey, orange juice and chipotle peppers.

Other new menu options are Tillamook Bay Petrale Sole lightly seasoned, served with delicious lump crab beignets; and a lighter entrée option, salmon Nicoise salad. For a complete list of new menu items visit here. And don’t forget, Fleming’s has 100 wines by the glass—something for every dish and palate.

Open 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar at 455 Newport Center Drive in Fashion Island, in Newport Beach. 949.720.9633
