For the love of street foods! The Eat Real Festival is part state fair, block party, and street-food fest running Saturday and Sunday at Helms Bakery District in Culver City.
The two-day tasty food extravaganza is where you can eat tacos inspired by international cuisines, BBQ, hot dogs, ice cream and more, as well as sip on delicious wines, handcrafted beers, and also learn from local producers who are committed to healthy and sustainable practices.
Get tips on how to make jam, sauerkraut or bread; learn how experts raise backyard chickens and bees, see the artistry it takes to butcher a steer or pig. And no dish or drink costs more than $5. Since Orange County is a hot bed of local and artisan fare, it will be well represented at the Eat Real Festival including participants such as Dee Nguyen of Break of Dawn restaurant in Laguna Hills is doing a hot sauce demo; Gabbi Patrick of Gabbi's Mexican Kitchen in Old Towne Orange will be doing a cactus/nopales workshop; Co-owners and chef Mark Cleveland and Tanya Fuqua of Avanti Cafe in Costa Mesa will be doing bicycle pesto at the bread ovens; Joel Robinson of Naturalist For You will be doing a wild edible foraging lecture; Old Vine Cafe will be making antipasti in the beer garden; and Delilah Snell, founder of Backyard in a Jar jams and The Road Less Traveled in Santa Ana organized the festival.
Open 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Helms Bakery District is at 8800 Venice Blvd. in Los Angeles. For tips on how to get there and avoid the 405, check here.
