Did you hear OC stylist (and Greer’s OC fashion editor) Leslie Christen is styling the newest Real Housewife of Orange County, Heather Dubrow? This Pelican Hill housewife - who debuts Feb. 7 - had plenty say about Christen’s styling expertise for the show.
“I was really pleased to find someone so great and easy to work with in Orange County as it was important for me to use someone local,” said Dubrow, who hired Christen for several events during Season 7 filming. “I would call Leslie and explain the look I wanted for a particular event and she would arrive at my home in the next day or two with a rack of options!”
After working with Christen, Dubrow is an advocate of having a personal stylist. With her busy schedule, it has become essential.
“Being a mother of four young children doesn't afford me very much shopping time,” she said. “With a stylist, I can have someone narrow the choices ahead of time and present me with the best ones at my home and when it's most convenient for me (like during the baby's nap time!).”
When she does shop for herself, Dubrow says she most enjoys the designer boutiques at South Coast Plaza. After shopping, she loves to head over to AnQi for drinks and dinner.
What about her husband Newport plastic surgeon Terry Dubrow? Does he shop too? Nope. Dubrow explained her doctor husband has his “very sharp” clothes made by OC’s most renowned stylist and designer, David August.
It was a delight for star stylist Christen to dress Dubrow for The Real Housewives of Orange County.
“Heather is from the East Coast, so she loves dark colors like black as well as more classic styles,” said Christen.
Our fashion editor writes the popular "Wear to Where" column on Wednesdays to report on the latest boutiques, fashion and beauty trends, designer lines and shopping destinations.
Plus, Christen’s own website, www.LeslieChristen.com, is one of OC’s top fashion blogs with style news and an eye-popping "Five Pieces to Wear this Week" advice column. She was also recently featured in Riviera and Locale magazines.
“For the show, I wanted Heather to add more West Coast trends and bright colors to her looks and yet keep it sophisticated and fresh at the same time.”
Leslie Christen | Lifestyling, which is her full-service stylist agency, not only dresses stars such as Heather Dubrow, but also dozens of stylish Orange County women. Her “lifestyling” service also includes closet editing and organization, online styling research, men’s styling, packing services and custom shopping tours.
Christen thought she was on her way to become a buyer when she studied fashion merchandising at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM). In a turn of events, she was asked by her longtime friend and top Hollywood producer Jillian Longnecker (Ides of March, Woman in Black, George Harrison), to advise her on films. Later, Christen worked on more than 15 films with Longnecker as head costumer.
“I became enamored with dressing people,” said Christen. Today, personal styling for entire wardrobes or special events is her first love. Her second favorite thing about her job is “pulling” clothing and accessories for clients via longtime connections at some of OC’s top designer shops such as South Coast Plaza’s Valentino, Hervé Leger, Dolce & Gabbana and Michael Kors.
According to Christen, hiring a styling service is affordable when you think about all the time you spend researching, shopping, trying on clothes, tailoring them and perhaps returning them. “A stylist can save you time and money and make you look better than you’ve ever looked in your life."
