Just in time to kick off National Heart Month and stay on track with those new year’s resolutions, runners of all levels are invited to participate in one of the country’s most scenic marathons in Huntington Beach, better known as Surf City, USA, on Feb. 6.

The Surf City USA Marathon is ideal for both the novice runner and seasoned contender. The annual event features an easy-to-navigate beach mile and 5k as well as half and full marathons complete with an oceanfront course that guides participants through some of the city’s best and most scenic routes. 

From the iconic Pacific Coast Highway to Central Park, the mostly flat course is idyllic for new marathoners and is often used by running enthusiasts as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. The course also meanders past the famed Huntington Beach pier where several feet below surfers convene every morning, donning wet suits and vying for the best waves. 

More than 2,000 volunteers have been recruited to ensure a smooth event, and several local surf bands will perform live along the way cheering on participants as they continue to race towards the finish line where a free beer garden awaits. Celebratory dips in the Pacific Ocean are also part of the Surf City Marathon and are high encouraged.
