Mars Make it a night from Mars on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley. JPL Planetary Scientist Dr. Ashwin Vasavada will discussing  Mars Science Laboratory Mission schedule to launch in November.

He’ll be sharing interesting scientific insight of the mission starting at 8 p.m. and an inflatable Curiosity Rover will be on display. Mile Square Regional Park is at 16801 Euclid in Fountain Valley.

Taste Newport!

Joan JettNewport's premiere food and entertainment festival, the Taste of Newport, celebrates 23 years at Fashion Island Friday through Sunday. The weekend party is a great opportunity to sample gourmet foods from more than 30 local restaurants, to taste wines, cocktails and handcrafted beers, and to hear live bands perform throughout the event.

This year's main acts include Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Friday, Barenaked Ladies on Saturday, and ABBA: The Concert and Taylor Dayne on Sunday.

Sample cuisines range from casual to fine dining choices throughout the event including prime rib, tiramisu, coconut 
shrimp, and Grilled New Zealand Lamb Chops just to name a few.

General admission tickets at the gate cost $25. A limited number of VIP tickets are also available for $125 each. A VIP experience includes valet parking, event admission, up-front section seating, private restrooms, etc. 6 to 11 p.m. Friday; 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
