We Olive & Wine Bar

Orange County is home to the first We Olive & Wine Bar, now that owners and husband and wife Debby and Phil Brooks expanded the We Olive concept at OC Mart Mix in Costa Mesa. The opening represents a love story between Debby and Phil, who share a passion for foods and wine and met in Belmont Shore, where they opened their first We Olive two years ago. We Olive & Wine Bar not only serves more than 30 artisan California olive oils and aged Balsamic vinegars but it also offers California boutique wines by the glass including 2009 Raymond, Sauvignon Blanc from Napa; 2008 Edge, Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley; and a 2007 Dunning Vineyards Meritage, from Paso Robles; as well as craft beers.

Stop by for special pricing happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and all day Sunday, and enjoy a cheese plate, crostini, olive tapenade, fig spread, fresh bruschetta, hummus with smoked olive oil. However, We Olive’s best kept secret is the to die for fresh lemon olive oil gelato, finished with aged balsamic and extra virgin olive oil.

Open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Saturday; 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

JDRF Congress

JDRF Congress Today in Washington D.C. marks the start of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) Children’s Congress. This is big news for those of us affected by diabetes, and especially since we have two delegates, Caroline Brewster and Cynthia Grivett representing Orange County.

Every two years, JDRF International Chairman Mary Tyler Moore convenes with children with type 1 diabetes from all over the country to meet members of Congress so that they can better understand what life is like for a type 1 diabetic. The delegates will advocate for urgent regulatory action to further the artificial pancreas and continued support of federal funding for research for a cure for type 1 diabetes. Joining  the children will be Nat Strand, also from Orange County, and winner of the “Amazing Race” along with other celebrity advocates who live with type 1 diabetes.
