Lido Theater’s Last Wave and Final Screenings

We are heartbroken to read that after 77 years, the historic Lido Theater will be closing its doors on January 1. Orange County locals can say their goodbyes with two final screenings. On Sunday, December 20, there’s the California premiere of “The Wave I Ride: Paige Alms’ Story” and on Saturday, December 26 at 7:30 p.m., “Legend of the Giant Killers” will screen, a documentary film made by two OC natives and Newport Harbor High alumni, Alex Crawford and Riley Hayes. It's the story of how one game can define a season and how one season can define the culture of the game—1967 Oregon State football team and their legacy.

"The Wave I Ride" is a surf film that pushed its way through Lido’s doors by one of OC’s very own. Directed by Devyn Bisson, the 70-minute film follows the story of Maui's Big Wave Ambassador Paige Alms, teaching audiences around the world what the ocean gives this woman's soul and what she gives back.

In addition to the premiere on Sunday, December 20, Lido’s Last Wave will be an interactive evening, formed around the idea of inviting all those in attendance to share “the wave they ride.” The night will feature a blue carpet, live music by Matt Costa & Ellie Mae, and an interactive guest experience. To honor its 77 years, there will also be an art instillation timeline highlighting some of Lido’s most iconic screenings. Merchandise and historic movie posters will be available for purchase, as well as beverages and concessions.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the film beginning at 7:30 p.m. immediately followed by a Q&A with Paige Alms & Devyn Bisson.
