Hollywood Glamour in Laguna

The man responsible for capturing Hollywood’s golden era through the art of photography, George Hurrell, started his career in Laguna Beach influenced by pioneer stunt pilot “Pancho” Barnes and artists William Wendt and Edgar Payne.

In homage to the legendary photographer, a stunning display of his celebrity portraits are at Laguna Art Museum through April 28, and biographer Mark A. Viera will be sharing stories and anecdotes on Sunday at 1 p.m. about Hurrell and his photographic style. Viera’s book, “Hurrell’s Hollywood Portraits”  a beautiful collection of Hurrell’s work describes his famous subjects, and analyzes his work in photographic terms. Vieira’s sequel, will be published in the fall.

Vieira is also a photographer who adopted Hurrell’s famous technique of lighting and large format camera, incandescent lights, full negative retouching, and fiber-base paper.

Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Tuesday; and Friday to Sunday: open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and closed Wednesday.
