“Waste-Less” Rise Above Plastics Art Show

Surfrider Foundation Newport Beach is celebrating their second annual “Waste-Less” art show and fundraiser at Volcolm headquarters in Costa Mesa on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 5 to 10 p.m. The goal is to raise funds and awareness for Surfrider’s Rise Above Plastics Program. They are on a mission to help reduce the use of plastics in our communities.

Their main focus is to reduce pollution by decreasing single use plastics by advocating for policies such as the ban on single use plastic bags.

At the event there will be art for auction and sale, raffle items donated by local companies, live music performed by Playdate, and many other activities for attendees, as well as a hosted bar.

The group of local and international artists will be showcasing art ranging from nature photography, painting, sculpture and mixed media. There will also be large art installations of plastic bottles created by Jana Cruder and Matthew LaPuenta.

Proceeds from the raffle and bar will go towards placing more fill stations in the community to decrease plastic water bottle use. Surfrider will be working with No Beach Plastic and the city of Newport Beach on placing more of these stations around the city. Americans drink more bottled water than any other nation.

All art works sold will have 50% of its proceeds donated to Rise Above Plastics, with the other 50% of proceeds going to the artist. This event is open to the public and is 21 and older with an open bar and raffle tickets for sale.

Volcolm is at 1740 Monrovia Ave Costa Mesa.
