Segerstrom Center for the Arts Celebrates Broadway’s Legendary 50th Season
04.04.25
Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents A Fabulous 50th: Broadway’s Most Legendary Season! on Friday, April 18, at 8 p.m. at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. This special event features Broadway stars Tony Yazbeck, Eden Espinosa, Klea Blackhurst, Carole J. Bufford, and Jason Graae performing music from the groundbreaking 1975 Broadway season. Tickets are available at SCFTA.org.
The 1975 Broadway season introduced two American masterpieces: A Chorus Line and Chicago. Michael Bennett’s A Chorus Line—with music by Marvin Hamlisch—became a cultural phenomenon, winning nine Tony Awards and running for 6,137 performances. Meanwhile, Chicago, featuring music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, debuted with Chita Rivera, Gwen Verdon, and Jerry Orbach. While initially overshadowed, the 1996 revival became Broadway’s longest-running American musical, with over 11,000 performances.
Beyond these landmark shows, Hamlisch and Kander & Ebb left an indelible mark on entertainment. Hamlisch, an EGOT winner, also earned an Oscar for The Way We Were and composed the Bond classic Nobody Does It Better. Kander & Ebb, the duo behind Cabaret, went on to create Kiss of the Spider Woman and the iconic New York, New York, made famous by Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli.
To honor this milestone, Segerstrom Center has assembled an all-star cast to perform music from A Chorus Line, Chicago, and other 1975 musicals, including Bubbling Brown Sugar, Pacific Overtures, and The Robber Bridegroom.
Tony Yazbeck, known for Chicago and A Chorus Line, joins Eden Espinosa, acclaimed for Wicked and Lempicka. Klea Blackhurst, famous for her Ethel Merman tribute, brings her Broadway flair, while Carole J. Bufford, an award-winning cabaret star, and Jason Graae, a celebrated stage performer, round out the lineup.
Don't miss this one-night-only tribute to Broadway’s golden year!
Tickets for A Fabulous 50th: Broadway's Most Legendary Season! start at $55.37 and are available for purchase online at scfta.org, in person at 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, and by phone at (714) 556-2787.
