California’s Largest Fireworks Stand at Honda Center

07.01.16

The largest fireworks stand in California is at Honda Center in Anaheim marking the second year of the superstore location. And to accommodate those living on the city’s west side, a second sales location has been added at Brookhurst and Ball in the Ralphs shopping center. Both Anaheim fireworks sales locations are open through July 4.

The stand is open today through July 3 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m; July 4 from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. This year, more than 100 Anaheim-based nonprofit organizations will benefit from the sales of Safe and Sane Fireworks at both locations via a community-focused fundraising program.

And, to help celebrate the 4th of July, Honda Center will host a free outdoor summer movie night on Friday, July 1 at 6 p.m., with The Sandlot showing at 7:30 p.m. on Honda Center’s giant outdoor HD screens, each spanning 15 feet by 25 feet and featuring more than 12,000-watts of professional touring-class sound.

You can purchase food and drinks from local food trucks including California Grill Truck, Ninjas With Appetite, Mess Hall Canteen, Rolling Sushi Van, Bakery Truck and Ms. Kettle.  The event will also feature a bounce house, live DJ and fireworks giveaways! Guests are encouraged to bring their own seating for the outdoor viewing area.

More information about the free movie night can be found at hondacenter.com/movienight.

2695 E Katella Ave. in Anaheim.

Summer at Chefschool

07.01.16

Young chefs looking for a fun, hands-on culinary experience can join the new chefschool summer cooking camps for kids and teens at the Hood Kitchen in Costa Mesa. It’s ideal for kids in elementary, junior high and high school. From basics to international and even baking classes, kids participate in week-long, half day camps with a unique 4:1 student to teacher ratio.

In the basics class, kids will learn real cooking skills (knife skills, recipes, chemistry of cooking, chef-approved techniques) and real recipes - no "kiddie" recipes.  All with healthy, wholesome ingredients and no packaged foods. The international cooking class will explore classic cooking from a different county, while learning basic cooking skills. The classes will focus on the foods of France, Italy, Greece, Thailand and Mexico. The baking classes will include classic baking techniques and an understanding of the chemistry behind baking.

Camp is $325 per week with a 5% discount ($309/week) when registering siblings or additional weeks of camp. Space is limited.

For more information and how to register for classes, call Chef Heidi Ristau at 714.474.6147 or email at info@chefschooloc.com or heidi@chefschooloc.com

The Hood Kitchen is at 350 Clinton Suite A  in  Costa Mesa.
