Santa Barbara’s must-see Hotel Californian
03.23.18
Following the devastating Thomas Fire to mudslides leading to the closure of Highway 101, Santa Barbara and its neighbors were hit hard. Now is a great time to consider a staycation to give the area some much-needed business.
The newly opened Hotel Californian with its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and bold Moroccan-modern interiors from celebrity “A-list” designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, is a mix of luxury, nostalgia, and accessibility. Located steps from the beach and Amtrak Station, the 121-room hotel is adjacent to the Funk Zone, a destination unto itself for contemporary yet laid-back style, wine tasting rooms, a buzzy beer scene and reenergized bounty-to-bar concepts.
The must-see Hotel Californian includes the restoration of the original 1925 Hotel Californian, home to downtown’s only fourth-floor outdoor event space and a rooftop pool and event deck boasting 360-degree panoramic views.
Guests can also indulge in luxury spa Majorelle; a Mediterranean-influenced signature restaurant Blackbird featuring Santa Barbara-sourced, hyper-seasonal ingredients in a sleek, yet unpretentious atmosphere; and Goat Tree gourmet café – a social gathering spot for casual, all-day dining with al fresco seating, coffee, baked goods and cold-pressed juices.

Crave worthy plant-based ice cream alternative
03.22.18
We just discovered Santa Barbara-based Reveri®, the first plant-based frozen dessert in the U.S., and we love it! It’s an ice cream alternative that redefines indulgence and is changing the perception of a healthy dessert one spoonful at a time. Crafted using a proprietary process that blends whole fruits, vegetables and dietary fiber into a guilt-free treat, Reveri has the richness of premium ice cream, but with no added sugar or sweeteners, dairy, gluten, soy, or added fats and gums.
Averaging only 82 calories for a four-ounce serving, Reveri uses dates and whole fruit frozen at the peak of ripeness, to achieve its sweetness. With half the sugar of typical ice cream and twice the fiber of whole fruit – which slows the absorption of the natural sugar – Reveri is suitable for most diabetics. The frozen dessert is also certified vegan and GMO-free.
Reveri’s flavors include Chocolate Forest and Strawberry Patch available online, and new flavors Vanilla Almond Blossom and Purple Mint Chip, which will be available online and in stores May 1.
Available in pints with a suggested retail price of $6.99, Reveri is available online at reveri.com and select retailers in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. For more information, visit reveri.com, and follow on Facebook at facebook.com/reveri, and Instagram and Twitter at @ReveriDessert.
