Twyla Tharp 60th Anniversary at Segerstrom Center for the Arts

01.31.25

Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents two performances on February 15 and 16 celebrating the 60th anniversary of Twyla Tharp, one of the greatest choreographers of our time. Twyla Tharp’s ability to merge music and movement into works of startling originality and beauty has cemented her legacy, and this program reaffirms her place as one of the great artists of our era.

The performances feature two remarkable pieces:

Twyla Tharp is the first and only choreographer to take on Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations, a composition known for its complexity and wit. Each section of the score—distinct in mood and texture—is met with Tharp’s signature approach, ranging from tender and teasing to transcendent and cheeky. Dancers effortlessly shift between ballet, jazz, modern, and unexpected moments of social and street dance, showcasing the full range of their technical prowess.

Philip Glass’s Aguas da Amazonia, arranged and recorded by members of Third Coast Percussion in collaboration with Tharp, offers a striking contrast. Performed on a unique collection of custom-designed percussion instruments, this piece channels the rhythmic energy of the Amazon, creating a mesmerizing fusion of sound and movement.

Tickets start at $44.07
Saturday, February 15 – 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, February 16 – 1 p.m.

Stonefire Grill, a beloved Southern California restaurant group with 13 locations across Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, and San Bernardino counties, is stepping up to support those affected by the recent wildfires. The restaurant will match donations up to $10,000 collectively, with all proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region through Round It Up America, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit facilitating charitable contributions.

To encourage community participation, anyone who makes an in-person donation at Stonefire Grill on February 3—National Carrot Cake Day—will receive a voucher for a free slice of its incredible carrot cake.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Stonefire Grill is also providing direct support to those impacted by the Eaton and Pacific Palisades fires. This Friday, the restaurant will serve 200 meals at an off-site location for affected residents. Additionally, Stonefire Grill has been delivering meals to the Salvation Army’s Evacuation Centers in Westwood, Pacoima, and Woodland Hills.

Recognizing the tireless efforts of first responders, Stonefire Grill has donated 10,000 gift cards to firefighters and law enforcement working around the clock to contain the fires, rescue residents, and protect communities. First responders can also enjoy a complimentary sit-down meal at any Stonefire Grill location, including its sister restaurant, Rattler’s Bar B Que in Santa Clarita.
