#LIVINGLOCALOC Supports Local Businesses

04.22.20

Three locals from the Alumni Collective, Arthur Jeppe, Alan Buchanan, Steve Kalatschan came up with a way to support local businesses during these tough times that anyone can get involved in.

They created a great grassroots solution called #LivingLocalOC. They built a website that aggregates the hashtag #LivingLocalOC and presents it as a feed to our community.

All it takes on a business end is to add #LivingLocalOC to their Instagram posts and they take care of the rest, including getting the site and their posts in front of as many locals as possible. You can check the website here thealumnicollective.com/livinglocaloc and the business FAQ here - thealumnicollective.com/livinglocaloc-business.

Anyone can share this info with any businesses you support and need help.

Tailor Giving Away 7,000 masks

04.22.20

Lucy's Tailoring, a longtime tailoring business based in SoCal, will be giving away 7,000 face masks (non-medical) to the Huntington Beach community this Friday, April 24 at its Seacliff Village Shopping Center shop via drive-through pickup.

As a non-essential business, Lucy's Tailoring had to close down its longtime shops around Orange County but owner Harry Guldjian wanted to do something to give back to the community that's long supported his family's business.

"I just wanted to do something to thank the community for their years of support of our family business -- my mom opened Lucy's Tailoring in 1991 and we've been fortunate to be in business for almost 30 years," said Harry Guldjian.

So instead of laying off his team of 20 tailors and seamstresses, he continued to keep them on his payroll and then offered them the opportunity to earn even more money by sewing face masks from home. He even dropped off sewing machines, materials, and equipment to each and everyone on his team who wanted to help make face masks.

In two weeks, his team has sewn 7,000 non-medical face masks, all 100-percent cotton, double-layered and washable. Harry and his team plan on giving away 6,000 masks at its Seacliff Village Shopping Center location from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Friday, April 24.

All residents of Huntington Beach with I.D. confirming residence will be able to receive a limit of 2 masks per person, limit 4 per family, while supplies last.

Another 1,000 masks will be donated to local HB first responders and their families.

7061 Yorktown Avenue, #102 in Huntington Beach.
