Camp Laguna for Kids

07.29.14

By Natalie Aronson

On any given summer evening you can find families barbecuing at Laguna Beach’s Heisler Park. And yet on Wednesday evenings, the Laguna Club is there for kids to enjoy a summer camp experience like no other.

Hoola hoops and noodles, kickball and lawn chairs are there for kids to enjoy being kids. At a recent visit, I was there for the inaugural weekly BBQ that the Laguna Club puts on for its kids and their families.

The Laguna Club opens its arms to Laguna’s youth and brings more than just a typical summer camp, it’s a safe space to grow and experience fun, educational activities.

TLC’s summer “Camp Laguna” is based at the Woman’s Club, although with all the activities they do, it’s more of a starting point to the day. The days can range anywhere from hiking at Alta Laguna and viewing the Laguna Art Museum, to visiting the OC Fair or exploring tide pools. TLC has their own Innovation Education program where kids have the chance to make their own science experiments, create storybooks or their own I-Spy.

Partnerships with the Laguna Nursery allow for kids to learn about plant life and wildlife and trips to the Sawdust Festival let them test out their creative, artistic sides.

With a philosophy to “Love One Another”, the Laguna Club truly lives by that in all they do. Started by a group of four passionate individuals with extensive backgrounds in after-school programs, TLC aims to build and harvest strong relationships that can develop into mentorships throughout the school year. Family-friendly, parent-supported and kid-approved, I couldn’t think of a better place to send your kids over summer or after school.

TLC rivals any after-school or summer program I experienced as a kid and the opportunities are truly endless.

Partnerships with the Laguna Beach community are what make this program possible, and with your help it can continue to be a place where your kids can go to learn and make some of the best memories.

For ways to get involved or to become a supporter visit thelagunaclub.com or attend their first “Friend-Raiser” Potluck on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Woman’s Club in Laguna which will help grow the Fall program and secure TLC a permanent home. Enjoy games, food, and even a raffle and learn more about the community that will engage your kids in their own learning process.

Pre-sale raffle tickets cost $8, or $10 at the event.

286 St. Ann’s Drive in Laguna Beach. 949.305.9310.
