Join Long Beach Fresh’s Foodways Summit June 1-7 for a full week of talks, tastes and tours of Long Beach's local farms and food scene. Long Beach Fresh’s Foodways Summit is a multi-day adventure showcasing urban farmers and the local food scene, with the goal of expanding healthy food access, education, and opportunities for all.
The week kicks off on Saturday, June 1 with THE COLOR OF FOOD, a celebration of plant-based foods and Afroculinaria in North Long Beach with a keynote by Kawani Brown (Long Beach Vegan Festival), and food by Chef Rodd Dodd (Organic Harvest Gardens), Chef Kyle Johnson (MarktLovr) and Osunkoya Chavon (Sunbelly Foods).
On Sunday, June 2, delve deep into THE HEART OF LONG BEACH to visit bustling markets, community healing centers, and an urban farm to taste and appreciate Cambodiatown’s earthly delights. Tastes include bites from Chef Chad Phuong, Monorom Cambodian Restaurant, Navy’s Cambodian Kitchen and Chef Ollie Cigliano.
On Monday, June 3, SEEDS OF OUR FUTURE assembles a cross-section of urban ag pioneers who are teaching the next generations ways to access land and grow food. Spend time eating and learning from Joe Corso at Long Beach Organic, Kathleen Blakistone at Moonwater Farms, David Hedden at Our Foods and Sheila G at Adventures to Dreams.
On Wednesday, June 5, EMPOWERED KITCHENS is a meet-and-eat with an astounding collaborative of chefs and cooks who have grown healthy food businesses from small and home kitchens including Khahn Hoang of Company of Khahn, Kat McIver and Angie Evans at Wide Eyes Open Palms, Dina Feldman at Feel Good Salsas and kitchen and Arturo Enciso at Gusto Bread.
On Thursday, June 6, you’ll be SCHOOLED in ways good food makes its way into our local schools. Get hands-on experience and school garden tours while we also tackle how our schools can purchase good food for Long Beach students.
On Friday, June 7, they’ll come together in a theatre setting and hear an impressive array of FOODWAYS STORIES in a fast-paced presentation format with lots of pictures called a “PechaKucha.”
At each Foodways Summit event, you can expect to taste something, visit somewhere, meet somebody, learn something and share something.

ANAHEIM PACKING DISTRICT 100-YEAR CELEBRATION

The Anaheim Packing District celebrates the 100th Year of the Anaheim Packing House, one of the last remaining citrus packing warehouses in O.C., which has been historically preserved and retrofitted as Orange County’s original market hall.
Anaheim Packing House’s Citrus Centennial Celebration will take place on June 1, from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m., within the historic Anaheim Packing House and at Farmers Park.
Enjoy a "Care for Citrus” gardening class hosted by UCCE Master Gardeners of Orange County, a citrus grove pop-up from Sunkist, giveaways from OC Fair Centennial Farms, an interactive art project presented by artist Franky Castle, citrus-themed makers, a citrus cocktail garden hosted by the Anaheim Halloween Parade, citrus-infused menu items from Packing District food purveyors and a free screening of a historical documentary celebrating the people – past and present - of the Anaheim Packing House.
Live music will span the decades including, 1920s Dixieland jazz from the New Auleans Band, a Jitterbug dance demonstration from the Atomic Cherry Bombs, 1940s swing from the Honeydrops, western swing from Darden Sisters, and rockabilly from Amber Foxx.
Other festive events will be planned throughout the year, including World Taste on September 25 and Anaheim Night Market on December 14.
