Steel Magnolias annual Home Design Tour
05.10.19
Steel Magnolias will host its annual Home Design Tour Mother’s Day Weekend, May 11 from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. Tickets, which are just $50 per person, are on-sale now and available for online purchase at thesteelmagnolias.org. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Stramski Children’s Developmental Center at Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital Long Beach.
This year’s tour includes four significant and architecturally mesmerizing homes in some of Long Beach’s most exclusive neighborhoods, including Alamitos Heights, Belmont Heights and Naples Island. The tour is punctuated with ambient music matching the mood of each home with Champagne, gourmet bites, and other amenities available for purchase at select destinations. The tour concludes with a reception set against a backdrop of outdoor elegance with dining, entertainment and a pop-up boutique featuring handbags, jewelry and other must-have merchandise curated for last-minute Mother’s Day shoppers.
It’s ideal for anyone looking for design ideas, enjoys beautiful architecture and aesthetics, or just want to spend the day supporting a wonderful cause – the Stramski Center, which does wonderful work for children with special needs.
A brigade of docents will be on hand to answer questions and provide anecdotes as well as architectural details at every stop. Among the homes included are:
A Spanish Beauty that has the feel of a luxury resort (think Ojai Valley Inn), yet embraces an old-world charm and inviting touches with no detail left to chance.
Net Zero Nest is an urban and urbane abode that illustrates how simple it is to live off-the-grid by creating a sustainable sanctuary in one of California’s largest cities.
A serene waterfront Beach Retreat that has been recently renovated from top to bottom just in time to make its debut.
A nearly century-old landmark that once housed officers and gentlemen, this iconic relic is a great example of architectural excellence from a bygone era.
Tickets, which are $50 per person, can be purchased online at thesteelmagnolias.org. Included are admission to all four homes plus a post-tour reception featuring food, wine and spirits, live entertainment, a pop-up Mother’s Day boutique, and opportunity drawings.
The tour begins in Park Estates where guests will pick up their tickets and be given the addresses to the participating homes. No children under 13 years of age – flat, rubber –sole shoes required. For more information, call 562.331.8007.

Studio88 Open House Celebration
05.09.19
Studio88, the West Coast’s first co-working space designed specifically for the Orange County interior design community is celebrating its one-year anniversary with an open house Thursday 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will feature wine and cheese, and special vendor appearances by Source Recruiting Agency, 3Form Translucent Materials, Uttermote and Spec Ceramics.
Studio88 celebrates one year of helping independent interior designers share the cost of doing business – with members enjoying co-working desk spaces, designer worktables, extensive resource libraries, private office spaces, conference rooms, design and CAD services, purchasing services, and more. Founded by interior design veteran, Chris Johnson (also founder of Design Tec), the space is meant to be an innovative area for designers that includes everything they need to run their own business in one location, maintaining the ability to work independently and grow, or fine-tune, their businesses, at any stage.
If you can’t make the open house, private tours are always available, and special rates on daily and weekly passes are available. From designers who are scaling down their business, to businesses who are flourishing and need support staff, to small teams starting new, Studio88 has the space and amenities to assist designers with all their needs.
Studio88 is at 20371 Irvine Avenue in Newport Beach.
