Vegan Fashion Debuts in LA

01.29.19

Vegan Fashion Week, dedicated to elevating ethical fashion globally, will be making its grand debut in Los Angeles beginning February 1. Produced and curated by French creative director and animal rights advocate, Emmanuelle Rienda, Vegan Fashion Week will be a tribute to the animals and an ode to the end of animal exploitation in all forms.

This unprecedented four-day event will launch with an exclusive opening soirée and tribute at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, bringing fashion and activism together with a deeply conscious twist. In conjunction with the Los Angeles Night of Ideas, the Museum of Natural History will activate its galleries, diorama halls, theater and public spaces throughout the museum.

Highlights of the event will include a talk by climate scientist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Robert Lempert, a vegan fashion runway showcasing vegan designers, a vegan capsule of high-end designer pieces, and a timeline displaying the evolution of vegan fashion and the brands committed to embracing cruelty-free practices. This year’s theme will be “Facing Our Time” and will explore the challenges faced around ecological and climate change through the lenses of science, nature, and art.

Following the night of the launch, guests will have the opportunity to travel to the LA Fashion District between February 2 - February 3 to experience a vegan world at the California Market Center, with a curated selection of animal-free designer pieces and a vegan lounge offering cruelty-free fashion, beauty, and culinary vegan innovations sourced globally from various countries. Brands, organizations, and attendees will have the opportunity to connect with conscious and like-minded individuals through activations, experiential exhibitions, and a conference featuring intellectual panels discussing the most critical issues in the fashion industry and the existing alternatives.

The week will close with a private fundraiser, bringing together like-minded celebrities and influencers, ethical fashion enthusiasts, and environmentalists to support vegan designers with a vegan fashion award, and the tools to help emerging and established designers to create cruelty-free alternatives.

Rienda’s long term goals include opening a sanctuary to animals directly impacted by the fashion industry and to continuously educate mainstream audiences and fashion brands with a traveling fashion week and conference across the globe until vegan fashion is the standard.

NEW DATE for Lunar New Year event at The District - Sunday, Feb. 10

01.29.19

Due to projected rain this weekend, The District's Lunar New Year event has been moved to a new date of Sunday, Feb.10, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The District will celebrate Lunar New Year with traditional and family-friendly festivities to ring in the Year of the Pig.

Beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, the first 500 guests will receive a lucky red envelope containing a crisp $1 bill, a tradition that symbolizes good fortune for the coming year. Highlights of the event will also include lively lion dance performances at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., along with fan dancers and plenty of kid-friendly activities. The lion dancers will begin their spirited performances outside AMC Tustin 14 and make their way to Union Market Tustin, stopping along the way to “gobble up” lucky red envelopes from participating shops and stores – and any families that want to join in on the interactive lion dance action, too.

Other Lunar New Year-themed entertainment includes an Asian calligrapher and watercolor artist duo who will provide complimentary renderings of guests’ Chinese zodiac symbols and Year of the Pig

illustrations. Keep those smartphones and cameras ready for a festive photo backdrop, too. Children can also enjoy several activity stations, including watercolor painting, color-your-own dragon and create-your-own paper pig crafts, along with face painters and balloon artists offering dragon or pig-themed designs and creations. The entire event is free to the public.

The lucky red envelopes will be distributed at a booth near AMC Tustin 14 on a first-come, first-serve basis on Sunday, Feb. 10. Additionally, several stores and eateries across The District will be offering exclusive Lunar New Year promotions, including:

Jasper Plum will be giving away lucky red envelopes filled with vouchers good for up to 50-percent off your total purchase; red envelopes will be given to the first 50 customers on a first-come, first-served basis on Sunday 2/10

Ritz Nails will be inviting all of its customers to select a lucky red envelope after their service and receive $1, $2, $5 or 20- percent off coupons inside their envelopes. Additionally, any customer who says “Happy Lunar New Year” from 2/5 to 2/7 will receive a free nail design

Nothing Bundt Cake will be offering a free bundtlet or mini- bundt cake – look for the voucher inside your District red envelope

All Coco inside Union Market will be offering all customers who say “Happy Lunar New Year” a free small scoop of ice cream. Offer valid only on 2/10

BubblePOP will offer 50-percent off admission for adults on 2/5

The Halal Guys will offer a free order of fries with every platter or sandwich purchase. Offer valid 2/10 to 2/17.

2437 Park Avenue in Tustin.
