Yappy Hour at the Ritz

The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel is hosting Yappy Hour on select Thursday’s this summer on the Dana Lawn where your dog can enjoy complimentary hand made biscuits and let Fido indulge with bacon, chicken, cheese, beef and liver flavored waters. In case any humans get hungry or thirsty there will be beers, wine and burgers available for purchase.

All proceeds from the event will go to support the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter. The volunteer run animal shelter opened in 1975 to provide temporary care for stray dogs, cats and other animals. The animals are held for seven days so owner’s can reclaim them. The animals that are not claimed are treated by a vet, bathed, vaccinated, micro-chipped, neutered/spayed and then are put up for adoption. The animal shelter needs private donations to be able to cover all expenses.

The event has been growing in popularity since its inception in April 2011 and last Halloween there were 1,200 guests who raised $7,500 for the animal shelter. Come party with some mutts and enjoy the scenic views while letting your dog socialize while you socialize as well.

Yappy Hour. Thursdays, May 3rd, June 7th, July 5th, August 2 and September 6 from 5-8 p.m. on The Dana Lawn at 1 Ritz-Carlton Drive in Dana Point.

Enjoy the Classics

There has never been a better time to get into classical music. Not only has the Philharmonic Society booked Grammy winning acts like Yo-Yo Ma, Parker Quartet as well as renditions on Beethoven’s legendary symphonies but they are also offering affordable 3 concert subscriptions.

There are 6 different concert subscriptions to choose from which include the All-Stars, Beethoven, British Orchestras, Barclay, Recital and Saturday mini series. All mini series will range from $90 to $950 and you can sit back in Orange County’s finest venues and listen to the complex sounds of classical music.

While all mini-series will feature 3 fantastic concerts, we would recommend the Beethoven mini-series. The exploration of Beethoven’s late works will be curated by Society President Dean Corey as he gives context and introduction to Beethoven’s greatest works including his Seventh and Ninth Symphony. As a bonus, the St. Lawrence String Quartet will perform Beethoven’s late string quartets.

If you act fast, you can save 20% when you use the promotion code MINI through July 15th.

Movie Magic

Movie soundtracks are such a subtle yet important part of the cinema experience. The Huntington Beach Symphony Orchestra is presenting “Music from Movies We Love” at the Huntington Beach Central Library at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Songs from My Fair Lady, The King and I, Oliver and The Sound of Music will be featured.

Tickets are $20 or $25 at the door. $18 for senior and students. Purchase tickets at H.B. Library or online here hbsymphony.org

Huntington Beach Central Library is at 8740 Warner Ave. in Huntington Beach.
