It’s the summer of sustainable seafood at Slapfish restaurant in Huntington Beach as Chef Andrew Gruel kicks off a six-week campaign today offering a series of specials featuring fresh, responsibly sourced seafood. Slapfish specializes in delicious "boat-to-plate" cuisine served in a casual, relaxed setting.
“We want folks to know that we are deeply committed to sourcing only eco-friendly and well-managed seafood,” said Chef Andrew Gruel, with his partner Jethro Naude, grew up fishing, surfing, and now making their living with the ocean. “We work closely with multiple organizations to ensure that we are responsible in our sourcing and serve the right types of seafood in our one-of-a-kind dishes.”
The Summer of Sustainable Seafood specials can include:
BBQ Yellowtail Banh Mi Sandwich, a fresh baked baguette, packed with pickled radish, cucumber, carrots, jalapeno, and spiced yellowtail, and grill sauce.
Wild Pacific Albacore Tuna Melt with rustic sourdough, spinach, cucumber, tomato, flaked albacore, and “awesome” sauce.
Baked Carlsbad Luna Oysters with wild mushroom and bacon stuffing, herb crust.
Copper River Salmon Hand Pie, gently fried, stuffed with avocado and chiles, served with tomatillo sauce.
Alaskan Halibut Po Boy, fried halibut in a toasted roll, packed with lettuce, tomato and pickled peppers, Tabasco aiol.Crispy White Seabass Taco, fried corn shell, pickled red onion and cabbage, rooster dressing.
Chef Gruel’s menu offers daily and seasonally changing dishes such as The Lobsticle, shrimp pops, major crunchy fish sandwich, creamy clam chowder, Carlsbad oysters, east coast style Maine lobster roll and the wild Pacific albacore tuna melt.

“Icons, Geniuses and Mavericks"
Chapman University’s second TEDx Conference will be returning to the university’s Memorial Hall in Orange on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
