Running on Irvine

Looking to jump-start your New Year’s resolution? Sign up for one of SoCal’s most popular half marathons on Saturday, Jan. 10 when the 24th Annual Kaiser Permanente Southern California Half Marathon and 5K returns to the Woodbridge community of Irvine.

Races start at 8 a.m. for the 5K and Half Marathon, followed at 10 a.m. with a Kids Run for eighth graders and younger.  Races start and finish on Barranca Parkway (between Creek and Lake Streets) in Irvine. The course covers flat, paved roads around neighborhoods and recreational areas of Irvine.

The Southern California Half Marathon and 5K includes digital clocks for all 13 mile-marks; chip timing; refreshment stations every two miles; an expo and food fair after the race; and more. Awards will be given to the Top Five Overall male and female in each race, and the top three individuals in each age range (both male and female) will receive placement medals. The event benefits Woodbridge High School athletics among other local schools and charities.

Visit schalfmarathon.com for all event information and registration information.

In-person registration will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at Road Runner Sports in Laguna Hills (2 p.m. to 7 p.m.); Thursday, Jan. 8 at Road Runner Sports in Costa Mesa (2 to 7 p.m.); Friday, Jan. 9 at the Lakeview Senior Center parking lot (20 Lake Street, Irvine) from 3 to 8 p.m.; and, Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Lakeview Senior Center parking lot (20 Lake St. in Irvine) from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m.  Arrive early for easy parking.
