American Legion Post 291 Centennial Celebration Set for July 4th Holiday Weekend

American Legion Post 291, a steadfast supporter of veterans in Newport Beach and surrounding areas, announces its centennial celebration, marking 100 years of dedicated service to local veterans.

Established on April 24, 1924, Post 291 has been a beacon of camaraderie, advocacy, and essential resources for those who have served the nation. For the past century, the Post has fostered a sense of belonging among veterans, championed their rights at all levels of government, and raised awareness of their unique challenges.

The centennial celebration will take place over the July 4th holiday weekend, from July 4th to July 6th, featuring a variety of community events and activities.

July 4th – Pancakes, Bands, and Boat Parade

The festivities will commence on Thursday, July 4th, with a public Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., offering pancakes, sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, toast, coffee, orange juice, and a Mimosa for $12. Throughout the day, live music performances by bands such as "M Street," "The Beat 5," and headliner "Young Guns," an international country rock band, will entertain attendees. The boat parade, themed “100 Boats for 100 Years,” with Mayor Will O’Neill as Grand Marshal, will begin at 1 p.m. The day will also feature a silent auction with items like sports memorabilia, Hollywood collectibles, travel experiences, limited edition art, and fashion jewelry. Food and drink prices will be $5 for 2 tacos, $5 for 2 hot dogs, $5 for a hamburger, and $5 for beer and wine.

July 5th – Family Day and Gala

On Friday, July 5th, the celebration will continue with Family Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring live entertainment and family-friendly activities. In the evening, the American Legion Post 291 Gala, a black-tie event, will take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Guests, including local and state officials, will deliver proclamations and resolutions, and there will be a Time Capsule ceremony and a post-history presentation video. RSVPs for the Gala can be made by calling (949) 673-5070 x1100.

July 6th – Food, Music, and Auction

The celebration will conclude on Saturday, July 6th, with a day filled with live music, delicious food, and a continuation of the silent auction. From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., breakfast will be available for $10.00. From 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., food and drink prices will again be $5 for 2 tacos, $5 for 2 hot dogs, $5 for a hamburger, and $5 for beer and wine. The silent auction will feature items like sports memorabilia, Hollywood collectibles, travel experiences, limited edition art, and fashion jewelry.

This momentous occasion invites the community to join in celebrating a century of service and support for veterans at American Legion Post 291.

Throughout the celebration, commemorative items such as t-shirts, cups, and posters will be available for purchase, allowing attendees to take home a piece of this historic event.
