Famous Interior designer tells all

On Tuesday, the Decorative Arts Society will host a fun and enlightening morning with Carleton Varney, one of America’s best known interior designers, at the Edwards Newport Stadium theater beginning with a breakfast buffet at 9:30 a.m. and a presentation at 10 a.m.

Varney has applied his signature mix of bright colors, bold designs and floral patterns to countless projects all over the world, from cottages to castles, cruise ships to country clubs, and mansions to a McDonald’s. He is president and owner of the Manhattan firm, Dorothy Draper & Company, the oldest established interior design firm in the country. His impressive roster of clients includes superstars from the worlds of entertainment, fashion and business, first ladies, presidents, prime ministers, and royals.
 
Mr. Varney’s versatility in design continues to draw prestigious awards for a range of products that includes furniture, lamps, dinnerware, crystal, linens, and his eponymous fabric line.
