March 26 & 27• Gardening 101: Learn the Basics of Plant Selection and Planting
Learn simple steps on how to plant a garden from start to finish. Before bringing plants home, an important step is to determine which areas in your garden have sun, partial sun, and shade. Then you will need to determine how healthy your soil is–what kind of soil should you be using, do you need to amend it with acid planting mix or cactus mix, could it use a bit of compost? Next, you need to decide on which types of tools you need to get started and how to maintain them. Then you can figure out how you want to design your garden and determine where to plant each plant. They will also discuss applying mulch on top of the soil to give your garden a beautiful and finished look while suppressing weeds and conserving water.

Get creative in the garden by planting themed garden containers for cocktails, pasta sauce, or salsa, or maybe start thinking about a Thanksgiving herb container? Create your own seasonal culinary garden to have abundant fruits, veggies, and herbs available to you and your family from your own backyard.

Learn about the plight of the monarchs and the best way to help save them. Planting and growing milkweed is one essential step, but it’s important to also understand Monarch butterflies’ life cycle, feeding, supply, and demand, as well as migratory patterns.
