Calling all Foodies!  Save the Date for SoCal’s Newest Food Festival

Just when we thought we'd seen it all on the food front - think Creamistry liquid nitrogen ice cream from our Tuesday edition - we were thrilled to get the news about what we think will be SoCal's hottest new food festival: Patchwork Edible Edition, coming to SOCO in Costa Mesa October 5 and 6! Mark your calendars now for this culinary celebration that will bring together visionary chefs, food authors, bloggers, handmade culinary craft vendors and food artisans - along with the you, the foodie public, for two days of eating, learning, tasting, and food shopping events. You've probably heard about the famous Patchwork Show that showcases modern handmade goods by local emerging artists, crafters and designers.  As its name implies, Patchwork Edible Edition - set for October 5 and 6 at SOCO in Costa Mesa, is the food version of the concept, bringing together visionary chefs, food authors, bloggers, handmade culinary craft vendors and food artisans - along with the you, the foodie public, for two days of eating, learning, tasting, and food shopping events from 11am to 8pm each day.

Specifically, the two-day event will showcase the flourishing artisan food movement in SoCal through an interactive weekend filled with baking programs, food trucks, restaurant pop-ups, book signings, beer and wine gardens, samples and more!

Plan to come experience the latest offerings from some of the leading voices in the Southern California food movement including Evan Kleiman, Aida Mollenkamp, Russ Parsons, Gustavo Arellano, Bill Esparza, Chris (CJ) Jacobsen, Dean Kim, Ernest Miller, and Laura Avery, and dozens of chefs, ranchers, farmers, bloggers and authors from across the region. The whole family - not just foodies- will enjoy the hands-on activities from DIY workshops to educational panels hosted by award-winning chefs to handmade products for sale from over 90 food artisans and modern handmade businesses.

Roar for a Cure at the Lyon

The UC Irvine Health Diabetes Center presents its 7th annual “Celebrate the Center” cocktail party and fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lion Air Museum in Santa Ana benefiting the center’s research in finding a cure for diabetes.
