Medicinal Music

image

Murphy Karges, bassist for Sugar Ray, and his celebrity musician friends talk about music’s healing effects and its power to transform lives on their latest Music for a Cure video. Murphy and his wife, Julie founded Music for a Cure, an OC based non-pro?t organization that raises funds to share music with critically ill children and support music therapy programs at CHOC and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.“We founded in 2000 in the memory of Ryan Bates, a Sugar Ray fan who had terminal cancer. Ryan lost his battle but we began our organization in his memory. We have been supporting music therapists in LA and Orange County for nearly decade,” says Julie. “We also put instruments into hospitals for kids who desire them. Music seems to reach kids in the most incredible ways, and research has shown that music has the ability to heal children who are suffering in certain situations. We want to continue spread this gift to all children.” Here’s the OC based Music for a Cure video filmed by Karges with Mark McGrath, Rodney Sheppard and Stan Frazier of Sugar Ray; singer, songwriter Christopher Cross; AJ and Jeremy Popoff of LIT; John Maurer of Social Distortion; Jack Grisham of TSOL; Michael Ward, guitarist for Ben Harper and author of “Mike the Bike”; Adrian Young of No Doubt.
