It’s no secret that the Register’s new owners, Aaron Kushner and Eric Spitz, are tirelessly working away at making the newspaper a daily must-read in Orange County, preferably they’d love for you to subscribe to the print edition, and are beefing up the content and quality like never before. They even invested $124 million to help small businesses thrive with its Local Business Appreciation program.
Editor & Publisher just named the Register in its annual “10 Newspapers That Do It Right” issue, thanks to the new direction Kushner and Spitz are working on that includes hiring about 200 new staff members including top journalists and writers; adding the new Well Magazine; Churm Media’s magazines; and are rolling out great new sections like OC Varsity; and of course, our favorite Fashion section that debuted yesterday and will run weekly until we hope, forever.
The Tuesday Fashion section is led by former business, government and politics editor, Julie Gallego who has her heart and mind on fashion, which makes us sympatico. She loves shoes, unique cuff and wrap bracelets, and runway Marc Jacobs shag haircuts that we want, but are too chicken to get.
Take a look at our fashion obsessions, and other Orange County style-setters. Abbey Said of AffluentGoods.com, Channel Mossavi of LuxuryHitsTheFan.com, Michael David Wilson, Mishka Piaf jewelry designer, and Beth Jones of BJonesstyle.com.
Each week in the Fashion section, you can look out for interesting storytelling, unique perspectives on hot collections for women and men, stunning design and images of local events, clothing, accessories, boutiques, salons, stylists and more. A fashion lover's dream.
Fashionable Lunch
Working Wardrobes is getting a jumpstart on Fashion Week with it’s own runway event and luncheon on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Westin South Coast Plaza with special guest and actress Susan Claassen returning as the legendary Edith Head, the Academy Award-winning costume designer that dressed every celebrity during Hollywood’s heyday.
Claassen will be hosting “Edith Head to Toe: Runway Styles that Really Work,” a fashion event to benefit Working Wardrobes and its mission to empower men, women, young adults and veterans overcoming difficult life challenges to confidently re-enter the workforce and achieve self sufficiency.
The luncheon will also feature a menu designed by Chef Jamie Gwen and includes some of Edith Head’s favorite dishes like chicken Casa Ladera, and a dessert trio that includes the designer’s favorite, Coeur à la Crème with fresh strawberries, and a signature Purple “Head-to-Toe” cocktail that will be served throughout the event.
Guests are encouraged to donate slightly used handbags and/or costume jewelry and will be entered in an opportunity drawing for a chance to win a $250 gift certificate to Rent the Runway. There will also be an opportunity drawing for a shopping weekend in New York, a silent auction and onsite shopping throughout the event at The Hanger pop-up boutique and Working Wardrobes consignment partners.
686 Anton Blvd. in Costa Mesa. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are on sale for $100. 714.210.2460 or visit www.workingwardrobes.org.
