Orange County’s newest destination for fantastic fresh oysters is Shuck Oyster Bar, a new concept from Noah Blom and Leonard Chan, two foodies helping to make South Coast Collection, a culinary destination in Costa Mesa. (Chan also owns Iron Press at SoCo, for local crafted brews and gourmet waffle sandwiches, and California Shabu Shabu in Costa Mesa; and Blom will be opening ARC at SoCo soon, a classic American cocktail bar with a wood-fired kitchen.)
Shuck Oyster Bar is a place to celebrate shellfish at its finest; Blom and Chan take pride in offering 48 varieties of the highest quality of seasonal oysters, as well as hard to find oysters. The rest of the menu is streamlined to make oysters the main event: choices include an Oyster po-boy, tasty chowders, a delicious grilled cheese sandwich, a Tijuana Caesar and smoked green salad. At the bar, ask away about the oysters’ origins, the staff will share their knowledge and look for shucking classes starting soon. All menu items go dangerously well with its selection of local brews, sparkling wines, mimosas, and sodas made with pure cane sugar.
Open daily 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Shuck is front of the OC Mart Mix at 3313 Hyland Avenue in Costa Mesa.

Quality Furniture
We know where many top chi-chi interior designers in Orange County go for great quality custom furniture and upholstery. They call up David Madrid, owner of our favorite, A&B Furniture + Upholstery in Westside Costa Mesa.
For more than 30 years, Madrid has offered top quality custom upholstery and custom furniture at incredibly fair prices.
Madrid’s team can custom make just about anything you want and can even duplicate furniture from magazines. They’re the go to source for refurbishing old wood, reupholstering outdoor cushions, and building pieces from scratch. With so many designers ordering excess pieces, you can also save on left behind chairs, sofas, and other in stock furniture.
They also stock high quality fabrics, including Ralph Lauren, Duralee, Pindler & Pindler, Kravet and many more.
Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 1711 Whittier Ave. in Costa Mesa. For more information, call 714.540.1821.
