Art of the iPhone!

Art of the iPhone

Ready to feel inadequate about your picture taking skills? You can’t use the my-only-camera-is-an-iPhone excuse anymore. You'll be amazed at the fine art capabilities that can come from an iPhone at "Pixels: The Art of iPhone Photography" at Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Ana.

The exhibit opens with a reception Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. and continues on display through April 28. The father of modern photojournalism, Henri Cartier-Bresson, said, "Aim well, shoot fast, and scram.” And Knox Bronson, curator of "Pixels: The Art of iPhone Photography," says, "Aim well, shoot fast, and app that bitch until it sings."

Bronson came up with the idea two years ago for the first gallery exhibit of iPhone photography at the Giorgi Gallery in Berkeley. The show received rave reviews and its constant submissions are rocking the art world: it’s a new medium and blossoming art form. Pictures in the exhibit are shot on iPhones and editing on a computer is not allowed.

If you feel like your pictures are worthy for the Pixels site, you can e-mail photos to submissions@pixelsatanexhibition.com (even send from your iPhone), or purchase their iPhone app, PixelEx, and upload directly to the site.

Open noon to 5 p.m. Thursday; noon to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Open by appointment only Monday to Wednesday.

Orange County Center for Contemporary Art is at 117 N. Sycamore in Santa Ana. 714.667.1517.
