Epic Timepieces

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Haiti’s devastating earthquake, and here are some ways you can easily aid in relief efforts and add to stylish timepiece to your collection.

Newport Coast residents Jeff and Jackie Bird spent six months in Haiti following the earthquake and returned home to launch Epic Timepieces, an online watch company raising funds for clean drinking water in Haiti. For each sold watch (they come in 15 color choices and cost $39.95), Epic will provide filters that purify water, which will help halt the recent cholera outbreak. After Epic provides 10,000 filters to Haitians from the first 10,000 watches, it will focus efforts on another developing country in need. Free shipping on U.S. orders of $100 or more. 800.921.7065. info@epictimepieces.com.

Ecofficiency.org

Jesse Baker and Chrissy Gray, co-founders of Ecofficiency.org, a Costa Mesa-based nonprofit that promotes social equality, minimizes waste, and reduces pollution by advancing consumer responsibility, just returned from Haiti to develop a pilot program to help eliminate the spread of cholera. Working with local organizations in Haiti, they distributed 20 water filtration systems and provided critical education in areas that had been previously ignored. Each system will bring clean water to 100 people for five years. Ecofficiency.org will be returning to Haiti in the coming months to continue their efforts. For further information about their recent journey and to make a donation please visit Ecofficiency.org.
