Catalina Island has earned spots on countless “best of” lists, from charming small towns and romantic getaways to scenic ferry rides, passport-free trips, outdoor adventures, and wildlife experiences. Known for its Mediterranean charm, expansive outdoor activities, and island-made products, the island is a favorite destination for great dining, boutique hotels, and adventure seekers alike.
Now through March 14, 2025, Catalina Express, in partnership with nearly 20 hotels—including Banning House Lodge in Two Harbors for the first time—is offering the popular "Best of Winter" ferry and hotel packages. Visitors can enjoy up to 50% off while experiencing cooler weather, fewer crowds, and more room to explore.
From the exciting new Pearl Discovery Experience—where participants pick an oyster, find a pearl, and select a necklace—to eco tours into Catalina’s scenic interior, semi-submersible undersea adventures, kayaking, parasailing, hiking, and boutique shopping featuring locally crafted goods, Catalina Island offers plenty of reasons to stay a night or two in Avalon.
New dining options are also making waves, including Flx Biergarten, Avalon’s first biergarten; the newly renovated Lobster Trap, now with doubled dining space and a sushi bar; and Pier 24, Avalon’s newest waterfront restaurant, inspired by the original Steamer Pier once home to William Wrigley’s iconic vessels, the S.S. Avalon and S.S. Catalina, commissioned in 1924.
Events add even more excitement to the winter season:
- Afternoon New Year’s Eve Ice Cream Celebration: Kids ages 5-12 can make masks, learn New Year’s trivia, and enjoy a 2 PM countdown and party.
- New Year’s Eve Celebration: A memorable evening in the iconic Casino Ballroom celebrating its 51st anniversary.
- New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim & Plunge.
- 43rd Annual Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup on February 22.
- Catalina Island Marathon, 10K, and 5K on March 8.
With accommodations ranging from budget-friendly to luxury, including newly renovated and historic hotels, there’s a package to suit every traveler. Each package includes round-trip ferry transportation for two via Catalina Express, with select Avalon hotels offering additional perks like discounts on activities, complimentary breakfasts, and wine and cheese hours.
