San Francisco Ballet’s Frankenstein Comes to Segerstrom Center

Segerstrom Center for the Arts will present San Francisco Ballet’s Frankenstein for five performances only, Oct. 2 to 5, 2025. The production is choreographer Liam Scarlett’s acclaimed interpretation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel.

Set to an original score by Lowell Liebermann, the work is performed live by the Pacific Symphony under the direction of conductor Martin West. Scarlett’s version of the gothic tale blends choreography, music, pyrotechnics, and dramatic storytelling.

The ballet follows Victor Frankenstein’s ambitious plan to create life, unleashing consequences that test the limits of humanity. Scarlett transports audiences to early 19th-century Geneva, with scenes ranging from eerie laboratories to grand ballrooms, all designed by John Macfarlane, a leading figure in ballet and opera stagecraft.

San Francisco Ballet, under Artistic Director Tamara Rojo, is recognized worldwide for its classical and contemporary works. The company is dedicated to commissioning and presenting works from both established and emerging choreographers.

Performances will take place in Segerstrom Hall on the following dates:

  • Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m.

Tickets start at $59 and are available at scfta.org, by phone at 714.556.2787, or in person at the box office, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. Group discounts for 10 or more are available by calling 714.755.0236.
