Check Out This Cheesy Spot

The good people at the Crosby in downtown Santa Ana just opened the much anticipated comfort food stand: The Grilled Cheese Spot in Santa Ana. This is grilled cheese nirvana, and a starting point from The Crosby’s famous Starving Artist grilled cheese sandwich with gruyere and balsamic mushrooms. At the Grilled Cheese Spot you can select from six sandwiches, or build your own with choices like sourdough bread, havarti and muenster cheese, with balsamic mushrooms, onions, jalapeno and Ranch dipping sauce. And be sure to try their onion rings or fresh made potato chips, and order a Chai Cola, it’s heavenly.

Our three favorites include the Habiger with short ribs, taleggio cheese, pickled onions and arugula on ciabatta bread ($8); or the Gobbler with turkey, cheese, tomato, onion and jalapeno on wheat ($10); and The Three Little Pigs with prosciutto, bacon, salami, brie, goat cheese, spinach and onions on whole grain bread is delicious ($11).

Bring cash; no plastic accepted.

Open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

318 W. 5th St. in Santa Ana. 714.543.3543.

Win a Scholarship

High school seniors bound for college in the fall can apply for Carl's Jr. 14th annual scholarship program available online through Jan. 31. Carl’s Jr. will give 60 deserving youths $1,000 each toward a two- or four-year college or vocational school of their choice. The submission deadline is Feb. 1.

Scholarship winners will be selected based on academic record, school and community leadership and participation, work experience and future goals. Financial need and other family circumstances also will be considered. Carl N. and Margaret Karcher started their company as a young married couple in 1941, with a commitment to faith, service and hard work. Now, more than 70 years later, Carl’s Jr. is proud to honor the late founders’ commitment to the community, and giving back to hardworking youth.
