Get a Grits

Don’t let the name fool you---Grits Fullerton is much more than an eatery dishing out a Southern staple. Grits is where you can experience chef Cody Stort’s talents from years working at well-known restaurants in Orange County such as the Lime Truck, Haven Gastropub, Taco Asylum and Hopscotch—yet this is the first time he’s at the helm.

Grits Fullerton opened one year ago and chef Cody is giving Orange County a new culinary experience where you can leisurely enjoy brunch and lunch daily, as well as dinner Wednesday through Sunday. At Grits, the focus is on making everything from scratch—not rushing meals, and enjoying your company with a cup of organic French press coffee, a craft beer and creative dishes. Wifi and TV’s are not part of the equation.

Chef Cody is creating his own take on American comfort food, with influences from California and Southern cuisine like Biscuits & Bone Marrow with sweet butter, fresh fruit and seasonal jam; Pork & Grits with Dr. Pepper braised pork shank, white grits, and a dried bing cherrie glace; and Tri Tip – medium rare tri tip, red pepper coulis, toasted faro, golden raisins, almonds and bourbon.

Grits are well represented: you can choose from creamed and buttered Roasted Anson Mills with Havarti; Jalapeño Cheddar with white grits and roasted red fresno chilies; Popcorn, Shrimp & Grits with bacon, jalapeño, popcorn infused pencil cobb grits and white fish; and Bacon Blue Grits with brown sugar butter with almonds.

Chances are you will discover new dishes unlike anything else you’ve had in Orange County, such as Crispy Chicken Skins with strawberry jalapeno jam; Thai Balls, a buttermilk fried pork cutlet, jalapeño, shallots, cilantro, maple syrup and fish sauce; and Duck Confit Gnocchi Carbonara – bacon, parmesan and black pepper.

On the lighter side, you can enjoy a Salmon Lox Salad with cumin vinaigrette, spiced pickles, cilantro, black garlic creme fraiche; and Bacon Shrimp Spinach Caesar with shrimp and white fish, pepitas, shaved parmesan and croutons.

Chef Cody’s philosophy is, “if you see something on the menu you want to try, you’d better jump on it, it could be gone tomorrow.”

Grits is also offering specials daily:

Industry Wednesdays: 25% off with valid pay stub.
Thirsty Thursdays: 1/2-off tap craft beer and wine all day.
Social Hour: 1/2-off tap craft beer and wine 3-5:30 p.m.
Sunday Supper; 5:30 p.m.: Fried chicken by the plate, or all you can eat, with sides and dessert.

Open 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Tuesday; 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday; 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

133 W Chapman Ave. #102, Fullerton. 714.449.0939.
