Summering at Social

It’s been nearly two years since Social Costa Mesa opened on West 19th Street as a chef and ingredient-focused restaurant with locally-sourced produce and meats set in an open rustic atmosphere.  It’s a go-to place for shared plates, weekend brunch, late-night bites, seasonal menus, indulgent entrees, as well as handcrafted cocktails.

Now, its new executive chef Brian Jezer has introduced a fresh summer menu with a delicious Crab & Heirloom Salad, Seafood Tower, Fresh Oysters, Summer Squash Toast and more! He works with chef de cuisine Daniel Chavez on many of the dishes, and bar director David Valiante is creating some of the best cocktails in Orange County. He’s sourcing fresh produce from local organic farms and making all of their syrups, shrubs, purées, infusions, and cordials in-house.

David’s “Monkey Business” cocktail was recognized among the “101 Best New Cocktails of 2015.” His new summer drinks include Magic Carpet Ride with vodka with jasmine infused Dolin Blanc, grapefruit and Sav Blanc; and the In Love With Coco with Espolon Tequila, coconut rum, Aperol, watermelon juice and coconut water.

Favorites from the new menu include the Summer Squash Toast with house ricotta, squash blossoms, confit cherry tomatoes and radishes; Roasted Cauliflower with pecorino mousse, almonds, capers, meyer lemon relish, chili flakes; and Beef & Broccoli with broccolini, pickled broccoli florets, crispy shallot rings, sesame and ginger. Other summer must haves include the Dungeness Crab with heirloom tomatoes, avocado mousse, crispy salsify and chervil; as well as the Smoked Bone Marrow with bacon marmalade, petit pimento grilled cheeses.

The Thunderking Coffee Chocolate Cake – cremeux, hazelnuts, coffee ice cream is one of the best desserts in Orange County.

Social’s specials are a huge hit this summer. Don’t miss Tuesdays for $1 Oysters and Industry Night which means 1/2 off cocktails for those in the restaurant industry.
Wednesdays are Wine Wednesdays 1/2 off select wine bottles and Thursdays are 1/2 off Rye & Whiskey. On Fridays and Saturdays, there’s a Late Night Happy Hour from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday Brunch is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday Supper is a Fried Chicken in a bucket and all the fixings.

Open 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday to Wednesday; 5 p.m. to midnight Thursday; 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Sunday Brunch is served 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
