Two Guns: A Real Blast

image

It happened a few weeks ago: There we were, in our living rooms, totally guiltily engrossed in the latest happenings of Snooki, the Situation and the rest of the Jersey Shore gang when we heard it: The lulling, heartful, alt-country rasps of Long Beach-based Two Guns. And we squealed.

It doesn’t take too much to surmise a guess that the woeful vocals of lead vocalist Kevin Poush didn’t exactly match up with the overly tanned, flamboyant bodies on the television, but there it was, playing in all its glory for Generation MTV, “Yellow Book.”

Two Guns is a must listen for anybody who’s waiting for new material between new Wilco albums—“Dollars” is a favorite, with its slide guitar and skillfully embittered lyrics playing a nice contrast with the toe tapping melody: “Yeah you won’t find a way/In this place/And it smells of desperation anyway.”

Oh, but don’t worry: If you can’t make it out this Thursday, Two Guns plays the (free) Monday night residency at Detroit Bar in April.

Two Guns, Paper Planes and Cowboy and Indians performs Thurs., Feb. 11 at the Prospector, 2400 E. 7th St., Long Beach, 562.438.3839. $5 (free before 9:30 p.m.), 21+.
