Silverlake’s Sunset Junction Fair celebrates its 30th Anniversary this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 21-22, Sunset Blvd, from Fountain to Marathon Ave., shuts down and parties up with five stages presenting 70 live musical performances ranging from Latin, alternative, retro-soul, electronic, DJ’s up and coming buzz bands and more. On Saturday some not to miss highlights include Dawes, Ghostland Observatory, Shiny Toy Guns, legendary American Ska rock fusion favorite Fishbone as well as the band some attribute as the holy grail of punk rock, Bad Brains. (You can also catch Bad Brains warming up for Junction at Anaheim House of Blues on Friday, Aug. 20.) Sunday the festival welcomes an eclectic mix of Mayor Hawthorne & the County, Lee Scratch Perry, Sam Sparro and the visionary dreamscape of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. Grab some street meat, enjoy the shows and celebrate the rich history and legacy of the east side neighborhood that is Silverlake’s Sunset Junction.
