Q&A With Patty Praisler of Rococo
08.22.16
Patty Praisler is celebrating her 10 year anniversary at Rococo in Dana Point on Thursday, Aug. 25. She has two locations in Orange County---one in Dana Point and in Costa Mesa. She shares with us some of her fashion tips and the secret to her success.
1. You are celebrating your 10-year anniversary at Rococo, which means you started before the recession hit. How did you adjust to handle that period?
We were very fortunate we had a very loyal customer base that continued to support Rococo. And our location helped a lot, too.
2. How has fashion changed in the last 10 years?
I have noticed a huge change from trendy to wonderful basics. The accessories are what makes the outfit. Chan Luu sells crazy for us because it takes a simple outfit to cool instantly.
3. What makes Rococo stand out from other boutiques in Orange County?
Rococo is neither low end or too high end. We are right in the middle! Our brands are loved by all and are staples for daily living. Very good quality and comfortable to wear. My main compliment I get from ladies is I have worn the pieces over and over again
4. What is your fashion pet peeve?
When women try too hard. Just let it happen with natural style. Feel good and you look good.
5. What advice would you give someone who wants to go into retail?
Get ready to spend a lot of money before you get to know your customer base. It takes time to understand your market and buy accordingly.
6. What are some of your biggest challenges?
Not being able to work in the store enough and be there to see my customers. I'm thankful for my amazing ladies who work for me.
7. What are some of your top selling lines?
Chan Luu is my number 1. She has made my stores what they are today. Also Xirena, Mother denim, Bella Lux and Cotton Citizen to name a few.
8. How do you choose a brand at Rococo?
The line has to be comfortable and good quality. It's important to me it is age appropriate. Our customer is usually a mother who wants to be hip but dress her age.
9. Tell us about your newest store that opened in Costa Mesa on East 17th Street. How did you choose that location?
I moved to back up to Newport Beach 5 years ago from Dana Point. I grew up in Costa Mesa. I was constantly asked where I got my outfits and accessories and told people about Rococo in Dana Point. It is far although a few ladies did make the trek. I soon realized 17th needed a store like Rococo and would be great to have it be local for me to work in and send ladies over.
10. How would you describe a Rococo woman?
The Rococo woman likes quality and shopping in a boutique that carries her favorite lines and she can grab stuff and go easily. We are willing to return items when they don't work and help each lady with her specific needs. We know our ladies personally and enjoy their relationship with us.
11.Cause that you’re most interested/involved in?
I am passionate about supporting and spreading awareness about mental health! I have been fortunate enough to work with Mission hospital. It is time that we take action and help this illness that affects all of us.
