One Step Closer, Orange County’s first Culinary Medicine Center
11.27.16
Last month, MaxLove Project—an Orange County nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of child cancer survivors and their families—celebrated its second annual Farm to Fork Dinner at Tanaka Farms in Irvine.
The dinner, marked the launch of MaxLove Project’s Gold Apron Society, an exclusive community of chefs, restaurateurs and real-food advocates dedicated to raising funds for culinary medicine and cancer research.
Thanks to the $206,000 raised at Farm to Fork, MaxLove Project will be able to lift phase one of the Culinary Medicine Center off of the ground, which involves creating the kitchen design and site plan at Tanaka Farms.
Chef members of the Gold Apron Society who cooked at the fundraiser dinner include several of O.C.’s most-celebrated culinary leaders: Chef Azmin Ghahreman of Sapphire Laguna; Chef Zov Karamardian of Zov’s Restaurants; Chef Greg Daniels of Haven Gastropub; Chef Michael Puglisi of Electric City Butcher; and Chef Cathy McKnight of Model Meals.
The Culinary Medicine Center will be a first in Orange County, where local chefs, doctors, nurses and the public will experience hands-on learning about the healing potential of fierce foods. MaxLove Project’s goal is to have one at every children’s hospital nationwide.
Funds will also support MaxLove Project's existing essential thrivership programs, such as the Broth Bank, Fierce Foods Academy and Camp Make & Believe, a therapeutic arts program that helps to ease the anxiety and stress resulting from battling life-threatening illnesses.
Proceeds will also extend support cancer research at Barrow Neurological Institute in Arizona, and the initiation of the Ohana Project for Comprehensive Integrative Medicine helping kids fighting cancer.
MaxLove Project is considering a family-friendly "taste of" style event in the spring, as well as a Farm to Fork dinner in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2017. The Farm to Fork Dinner will return to Orange County Sept. 23, 2017!

Duck the Halls at the Market Place
11.25.16
Attention Ducks fans! The Anaheim Ducks will bring its holiday spirit to The Market Place with three holiday tree displays and family-fun activities.
Each of the 40-foot-tall trees were inspired by the beloved team: there’s a Fan Tree, a Team Tree and a Wild Wing Tree complete with thousands of custom ornaments themed specifically for the Ducks and a one-of-a-kind, three-foot-tall glowing Wild Wing-inspired tree topper. The trees can be found at the California Pizza Kitchen Courtyard, Edwards Theater Courtyard and Lowe’s Food Courtyard.
The “Duck the Halls” festivities begin on Saturday, Nov. 26 with a Ducks Game Watch Party from 6 to 10 p.m. Enjoy a tree lighting, then join a special mystery guest from the Ducks team to watch that evening’s game live against the San Jose Sharks on two giant screens in the Edwards theater parking lot. The Ducks special guest will be joined by the mascot, Wild Wing, along with the Ducks Street Team and Power Players for meet-and-greets and giveaways.
Each Saturday from Dec. 3 through Dec. 17, you can enjoy special holiday activities for kids from 2 to 4 p.m., including cookie decorating and games inspired by the season. And, enter to win The Ultimate Fan Package of four (4) Ducks tickets and a $500 The Market Place gift card. Four prize packs will be given away.
