01.04.16

You can start the New Year on the right track with fitness and health. You can sign up for one of SoCal’s most popular half marathons on Saturday, Jan. 9 when the 25th Annual Kaiser Permanente Southern California Half Marathon and 5K returns to the Woodbridge community of Irvine.

For the first time, they’ve added an 18 Mile Run to help those training for the LA and other early spring marathons.  You can check out the Half Marathon/18 Mile Course map.

Races start at 8 a.m. for the 5K, Half Marathon, 18-mile run followed at 10 a.m. with a Kids Run for eighth graders and younger.  Races start and finish on Barranca Parkway (between Creek and Lake Streets) in Irvine. The course covers flat, paved roads around neighborhoods and recreational areas of Irvine.

The Southern California Half Marathon and 5K includes digital clocks for all 13 mile-marks; chip timing; refreshment stations every two miles; an expo and food fair after the race; and more. Awards will be given to the Top Five Overall male and female in each race, and the top three individuals in each age range (both male and female) will receive placement medals. The event benefits Woodbridge High School athletics among other local schools and charities.

Online registration is at active.com available through Thursday, January 7, 2016.

For those wanting Early Packet pickup (including bibs and T-shirts), you can do so on January 6 and 7 at A Snail’s Pace in Mission Viejo and in Fountain Valley.

Quite possibly the best dining concept ever: part bacon bar, bakery, cheese shop and bar, is the new Saint Marc Pub - Café, Bakery & Cheese Affinage -- a flagship restaurant at Pacific City in Huntington Beach.

Saint Marc has something for everyone. A well-curated selection of craft beer in a can, expertly handcrafted cocktails served in red SOLO cups and 32 wines on draft. The bacon bar features a wild variety of flavored cuts (including wild cherry, tender belly habanero and chocolate), while the cheese lovers can choose from more than 100 international selections. The café and bakery serves caffeinated drinks and free-flowing breads from breakfast hours until late night.

The kitchen prepares classics with a gourmet twist, such as grilled cheese and southern grits, to elegant charcuterie and ahi tuna cooked on salt rocks. You can’t pass up the lemon ricotta beignets!

You can stop in Saint Marc for intimate dinners, late night bites, business lunches or family brunches. An innovative, iPad menu system, used tableside and at free standing stations, offers images and on-demand ordering of any of Saint Marc's items for in-house dining or take out.
