Exciting T1D Research Update

02.19.14

Interested in an exciting research update on the quest to cure type 1 diabetes? At the Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center at Hoag Hospital on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. you can attend a lecture on the science and progress of islet cell encapsulation, thought to represent a potential cure for type 1 diabetes.

Presenter, Dr. Chad Green, is a PhD bioengineer with ViaCyte, a leading regenerative medicine company developing stem cell based therapies.  Dr. Green is ViaCyte's encapsulation device expert. He will be discussing the development of a durable encapsulation device filled with pancreatic endocrine precursor cells that differentiate and mature to become functional islet cells.

Come learn about what encapsulation is, how it works and what it looks like.  See JDRF research dollars at work and hear about when ViaCyte will initiate its first in-human trials in T1D patients in the United States.  This is a can't miss event for those affected by type 1 diabetes!

With questions or to RSVP, please contact Michelle Popoff via email MPopoff@jdrf.org  or phone 949.885.5025.

Appetizers and beverages will be served.
