Saying Goodbye to Sababa and Hello to Better Chains

07.09.15

After a successful five-year run as one of Long Beach’s most popular places to dine, drink and mingle, Sababa Restaurant & Lounge at The Marketplace will close its doors for good on July  31.  That means you have a few weeks left to enjoy Sababa’s signature dishes and menu of Mediterranean fare along with handcrafted cocktails and alfresco dining.

“This was a difficult decision for me,” says Rochman, who opened Sababa, which means “cool” in Hebrew, in 2010.  “I’m in the process of securing jobs at other restaurants for as many of my employees as possible.  Many of those who work here have become like family to me.”

Rochman, the father of four young boys, started a new company, Better Chains, which is growing faster than he imagined.  The company has dozens of clients, from Long Beach to New York to Israel.

Better Chains is a cloud-based management tool designed to help restaurant and franchise owners streamline operations with simple solutions in a plug-n-play fashion. As a restaurateur Rochman saw the need for a suite of back office tools that could be turned on and off as needed. Focusing on multi-unit and franchise structures, the modules use a single dashboard view of all restaurant locations giving complete visibility of operations and real-time intelligence to the user no matter where they are accessed from.

Open 5 p.m. to midnight Tuesday to Thursday; until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday; and 4 to 10 p.m. on Sunday until the end of the month.

Sababa is located next door to BevMo at The Marketplace in Long Beach where 2nd Street and Pacific Coast Highway meet. 562.252.3572

National Gay Blood Drive Day

07.09.15

By Mimi Ngo

Blood donations are always in high demand in order to save lives in need.

This Friday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. for National Gay Blood Drive Day, The LGBT Center on 4th Street in Santa Ana is hosting a blood drive with the Red Cross allowing gay and bisexual men to bring allies who will donate blood on their behalf and to raise awareness towards an FDA donation ban.

The FDA currently does not accept donations from men who have had male-to-male sexual relations.

An optional petition will also be available to sign in attempt to lift the donation ban by the FDA.

To sign up, visit redcrossblood.org and use the sponsor code: CenterOC

LGBT Center on 4th at 305 East 4th Street in Santa Ana.
