Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Bone Marrow Donor Drive

07.13.15

Hyatt Huntington Beach is calling all OC neighbors to participate in a bone marrow donor drive on Thursday, July 23 in an effort to find a life-saving match for Emma Devitt, the 8-year-old daughter of the resorts former general manager, Paul Devitt. Emma has a rare form of leukemia and is desperately in need of a compatible donor, which the Hyatt hopes to discover during the day-long donor event.

Willing donors can stop by anytime from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 23, at the resort’s Conference Center to register and “get swabbed.” The registration process takes less than five minute with a one page sign-up form and cotton swabbing of both cheeks.

Through Delete Blood Cancer DKMS, Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach and more than 70 other Hyatt-branded hotels across North America will raise awareness about blood cancer and work to expand the bone marrow donor registry that helps save the lives of cancer patients; including 8-year-old Emma Devitt.

Emma is among the more than 14,000 Americans in need of a bone marrow match and transplant to survive.

Every day thousands of patients search for a match, but only 4 out of 10 patients are lucky enough to receive a transplant. With less than two percent of the population in the United States on the bone marrow registry, now is the time to consider being a donor.

Registration is open to anyone who is in generally good health and between the ages of 18-55; a U.S. resident; willing to donate bone marrow to any patient in need (about 80 percent of the time the donation process is comparable to the process of donating blood); not already on the registry; and not active or reserve military.

Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach is at 21500 Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach. 714.698.1234
