Coastal Cleanup Day

09.15.16

You can help make the beach even better on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon p.m. by participating in Coastal Cleanup Day – part of the world’s largest trash pickup. Following the three-hour event, Orange County Coastkeeper and the California State Parks will host a post-cleanup celebration at Huntington State Beach.

The Trash Free OC Jamboree event from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. will feature educational games and activities, prizes and food will be available for purchase from food trucks: Ruby's Diner, Piaggio on Wheels, Crepes Bonaparte and Kona Shaved Ice.

The event is free, but a portion of proceeds from food sales will be donated to Coastkeeper and to Bolsa Chica and Huntington State Beaches to support environmental education efforts.

Last year, nearly 7,000 Orange County volunteers collected more than 42,000 pounds of trash and recyclable materials during the three-hour event across all parts of Orange County. This year, Coastkeeper expects an even bigger turnout and more trash recovered.

It’s a BYO and zero waste event. It’s best to bring a bucket or reusable bag, gloves and a reusable water bottle. You can view here to see the 47 cleanup sites in Orange County.

Minors will have to sign a consent form here.
