Free Concert at Segerstrom to Commemorate Vietnam Veterans

Student music ensembles from high schools across the country will perform in a commemorative concert, Songs of Thanks, for the American veterans of the Vietnam War in Segerstrom Concert Hall on Monday, March 27 at 8 p.m. The concert, presented by WorldStrides OnStage, is free to the public.
 
The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration was formed by the U.S. Secretary of Defense to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.  WorldStrides OnStage joins the Commemoration as a “Commemorative Partner”, to honor Vietnam veterans nationwide. The Segerstrom Concert Hall is the second of four concerts nationwide.  
 
The concert’s repertoire includes a special arrangement of The National Anthem, America, The Beautiful, and The Stars and Stripes Forever. Individual ensembles will also make tribute to veterans during their performances. Admission is free to all.
 
This year’s festival will feature choral adjudicators, Dr. Craig Jessop and Anton Armstrong and instrumental adjudicators, Dr. Andrew H. Dabczynski and Gary W. Hill.

Emerson String Quartet Returns to Segerstrom Center

Segerstrom Center for the Arts welcomes the annual return of acclaimed ensemble, the Emerson String Quartet on Tuesday, March 28 in a program that will feature the first West Coast performance of Shroud by British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage. This new work was commissioned in part by longtime supporters of the Center’s Chamber Music Series, Elizabeth and Justus Schlichting.

The evening also includes Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major and Tchaikovsky’s Quartet No. 3 in E-flat minor, Op. 30. The Emerson String Quartet includes Eugene Drucker and Philip Setzer, violins; Lawrence Dutton, viola and Paul Watkins, cello.

Single tickets start at $29 and are now available online at SCFTA.org, at the Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa or by calling (714) 556-2787. Ticket holders are invited to attend the Preview Talk at 7:15 p.m.
