Hotel San Luis Obispo’s Ox + Anchor and San Luis Obispo Film Festival Honor Author Julia Child
11.08.21
Piazza Hospitality’s Hotel San Luis Obispo, a luxury boutique hotel situated along California’s beautiful Central Coast, is offering a special dinner at Ox + Anchor curated by Chef Ryan Fancher in honor of renowned culinary inspiration, Julia Child.
In partnership with the San Luis Obispo Film Festival, this exclusive experience will also feature a screening of the new documentary “Julia” at the first solar-powered theater in the U.S., the Palm Theater, located adjacent to the hotel. The film is a moving portrayal of the life of beloved cookbook author and unlikely television star who brought French cooking into the hearts and homes of Americans with her revolutionary book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to pay homage to such a trailblazing talent in the culinary industry,” said Ryan Fancher, Executive Chef at Hotel San Luis Obispo. “I grew up watching Julia Child’s cooking shows on KQED with my mother and grandmother, which truly fueled my passion for art and effort to make cooking fun while executing proper technique. I was even fortunate enough to meet my idol while carrying her groceries one day in Santa Barbara during my humble beginnings as a high school teen bagging groceries.”
Priced at $65 per person, with $10 from each meal being donated by Hotel San Luis Obispo to the San Luis Obispo Film Festival, The Julia Child menu at Ox + Anchor was imagined by Chef Fancher who honed his French-style cooking techniques during his time in the French California kitchens of Thomas Keller and Richard Reddington. Chef Fancher drew inspiration from these chefs to create elevated French dishes packed with flavor and approachability.
The three-course menu features dishes such as Salad Mimosa with Boston bib lettuce, hen egg, tomato, chervil, bacon and avocado, French Onion Soup with gruyere and garlic sourdough crouton, Beef Bourginion with all-day braised short ribs, baby vegetables and burgundy, Salmon Hollandaise with grilled king salmon, hollandaise and crispy onions, and Lamb Chop with tomato provencal, tapenade and fennel. To conclude dinner, guests can indulge in desserts such as Crepes Suzette with orange butter, whip cream and buttermilk ice cream, and Caramelized Pears in Puff Pastry with five-spiced whipped crème fraiche. Guests can book their dinner reservations via this link.
This food and film experience will be available November 26-28 and December 1-5. Showtimes for the documentary are at 4:15 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the Palm Theatre box office. Face masks are required at the theater regardless of vaccination status. Suggested dinner reservation times are 6:15 p.m. or later for a 4:15 p.m. showtime, or 5:00 p.m. for a 7:00 p.m. showtime. Please note that Ox + Anchor is closed Monday and Tuesday. Additional information about this event can be found at this link.
