Negroni Week in OC
06.05.17
All around the world bars and restaurants are stocking their shelves with those three special ingredients — Campari, gin, and vermouth — as one of the year’s most exciting charitable events is nearing just around the corner. Presented by Imbibe Magazine and Campari, NEGRONI WEEK kicks off on Monday, June 5 and lasts through Sunday, June 11.
For this year’s Negroni Week, Inspire Artistic Minds, a community culture project is hosting a Launch Party at Mesa in Costa Mesa June 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. During the event, eight Orange County bartenders will prepare their signature Negroni for a judging panel and hope to take home the 1st Place title, as well as an experience education scholarship provided by Inspire Artistic Minds. The participating bartenders must use the following ingredients: Campari, Botanist Gin, their choice of Sweet Vermouth; beyond that, they are allowed to be as creative as they wish in terms of additional ingredients, presentation, and flair. All in attendance on this evening will make a $10 donation and get to try a sample of each of the Negroni creations, as well as the opportunity to vote for their favorite, and enjoy a variety of small bites courtesy of Mesa.

At Bruno’s Italian Kitchen in Brea, the Negroni utilizes premium Italian spirits and liqueurs to create an authentic, memorable experience. Bruno’s will donate a portion of proceeds from every Negroni cocktail sold to No Kid Hungry - Share Our Strength.

The award-winning Ways and Means Oyster House at Pacific City in Huntington Beach is mixing things up with the debut of the Rose Negroni! Mixed with Campari, Antica Formula Vermouth Dillon's Rose Gin Liqueur, freshly squeezed lemon and garnished with an orange slice, this well-crafted cocktail is destined to become a go-to summer sipper this season. During Negroni Week, a portion of the proceeds from every Rose Negroni sold will go to the non-profit organization, Autism Speaks.

CUCINA enoteca in both the Irvine and Newport Beach locations are stirring up their own unique recipes. $1 from each Negroni will be donated to The Pet Rescue Center, a Mission Viejo-based charity dedicated to saving “at-risk” dogs and cats from unnecessary euthanasia.
Lead Bartender Tucky Dias at Cucina enoteca Fashion Island has named his Negroni rendition the Poco Amargo, translating to “slightly bitter,” for the addition of the Italian digestif, Amaro Nonino. The grappa-based liqueur gives the recipe an extra touch of Italian flavor while the smoky mezcal rounds out the cocktail.

Bar Manager Luke Wilmoth at Cucina enoteca Irvine mixed two favorite European summer sippers: the Negroni and the Spritz. Staying true to both cocktails, Wilmoth mixes the traditional Negroni ingredients with a sparkling splash of Italian prosecco and a swirl of Aperol. Leave your passport at home because this staycation-in-a-glass is one daydream away from la dolce vita.
