Rallycross Action!
03.20.11
Who knows, maybe you have a weakness for watching the best in rallycross action? (We don’t judge.) The fast cars, flying dirt, and death-defying jumps—and the chance to witness history. Well, you’re in luck. This Friday and Saturday the Global RallyCross Championship is taking place at Toyota Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale.
Here’s what’s in store for you: watch intense powerful cars racing and sliding, crashing and the first 70-foot gap jump in any motorsport competition outside of X Games. Word has it that Finnish racing legend Marcus Grönholm will be competing in the first round. Drivers in high-horsepower compact cars over a challenging short course complete with jumps, turns, hills and transitions between pavement and gravel.
Top-class competitors will be driving 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds. The outcome of the competition will determine who will be going to the X Games this summer.
The SuperRally action will happen on Friday and tickets cost $5.
The five-car feature RallyCross event takes place on Saturday. Tickets cost $20. Gates open at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
To purchase tickets and more information go online here.
TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale is at 500 Speedway Drive in Irwindale.
