OC’s Birdwell signs SD surfer Joel Tudor
07.05.24
Birdwell, the iconic American beachwear brand renowned for its handmade, premium boardshorts, proudly announces its official sponsorship of legendary longboarder Joel Tudor. This partnership solidifies a decades-long relationship between the San Diego-based surfer and Birdwell, which began when Tudor was just 18.
In his early surfing days, Birdwell provided Tudor with numerous custom shorts through Mitch’s Surf Shop in La Jolla, California. Now 48, Tudor has competed globally in his "lucky" Birdwell boardshorts and has remained a devoted fan of the brand throughout his career.
As part of this collaboration, Birdwell and Tudor will develop a custom line of products, including a new version of his famous "lucky" shorts. Tudor, now a Birdwell ambassador, will also create surf and jiu-jitsu content, including films, photo trips, and more. Birdwell and Tudor are committed to preserving and giving back to the surf community through contests and other interactive initiatives, while also building connections within the martial arts community.
Tudor joins an impressive roster of Birdwell surf ambassadors, including Kevin Skvarna, Arthur “Toots” Anchinges, Chris Christenson, and Robert “Wingnut” Weaver. "Joel is a true icon and treasured in the culture of surfing," said Eric Crane, CEO of Birdwell. "Working with him two decades ago at Op, I witnessed his incredible work ethic and brand impact. I’m proud to welcome Joel home to Birdwell and help bring his ideas to life."
Since 1961, Birdwell has been crafting boardshorts of exceptional quality and timeless style from the sunny beach towns of Orange County, California. A cornerstone of authentic American beach culture, Birdwell is known for its dynamic boardshorts for surfers and ocean lovers. Over sixty years later, the company continues to offer a variety of elevated lifestyle goods for men and women, including its renowned shorts and other coastal apparel, as well as essential beach accessories.
